PowerA looks to disrupt the handheld console market with Android ...

Gaming peripheral company PowerA today announced its MOGA Android gaming add-on device will be available for sale in stores and at online retailers in the U.S. on Oct. 21, 2012. The device will cost $49.99.

Similar in appearance to a conventional game console controller, the MOGA comes equipped with a fold out stand that allows players to turn their Android smartphone into a handheld gaming system ? similar to a Nintendo 3DS or a PlayStation Vita, but for a fraction of the retail price of a conventional handheld system. ?The MOGA peripheral will launch with the free companion MOGA Pivot app, wich will provide a platform for players to browse and launch MOGA compatible games.

In order to incentivize early adopters, for a limited time consumers who purchase the MOGA system will also receive two free games: Sega?s Sonic CD and Namco Bandai?s Pac-Man. In addition to Sega and Namco Bandai, several other developers and publishers such as Gameloft, Atari and Remedy Entertainment have thrown their support behind the device. Several titles of titles are already compatible with the system, and all are promising to develop more.
