Ultimately, you're supposed to refer to these charts anytime you want to buy a big ticket item, to determine whether you can afford to do it now or if you should wait.

These charts are useful if you take the time to classify your transactions as need-based or want-based and your monthly income is consistent enough to create an accurate forecast. I really liked visualizing my balance and income in coming months. However the OCD side of me recognized that in order to create an accurate cash flow chart, I'd have to go through all my transactions and classify them accurately. Fortunately, Adaptu lets you do this within the app.

In fact my biggest gripe about Adaptu's app is the Web application itself, which you'll use frequently to manage features with the mobile app. It's chock full of valuable information, budgeting software, and financial planning advice, but none of this is clearly organized. For instance when I was first starting out I wanted someone to guide me through the setup process. So I clicked Getting Started, and was brought to what looks like a discussion board with topics like "how to set pay day for budget?" and "Biweekly income budgeting vs. Monthly." Not helpful. The same thing happened when I clicked on sub categories within the toolbar?I was redirected to a discussion board.

Security
The Adaptu Wallet iPhone app is more secure than my physical wallet. Like most finance and banking apps, Adaptu doesn't store data in the device itself to prevent outsiders from recovering the data in case your phone is lost or stolen.

Adaptu says its app uses "bank-level security," which means information is encrypted with AES 256-bit and verified by TRUSTe, VeriSign and MacAfee. The app also forces users to enter a PIN at every login and any time the app goes on standby mode after a minute. It's annoying, but reassuring.

Should You Adapt to Adaptu?
Adaptu Wallet for the iPhone is an ambitious little app that packs many unique features, like spending forecasts, keeping track of loyalty programs, and storing photos of all the minutiae you stuff in your wallet. All this app needs is a card processor and I'm ditching my physical wallet for good. WASHINGTON --?Psychiatrists at?the?military base where Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, the suspect in the killings of 16 Afghan civilians, was stationed overturned more than 40 percent of diagnoses of post-traumatic stress disorder since 2007, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., told colleagues at a Senate hearing Wednesday.

The forensic psychiatry unit at Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord is being investigated for reversing diagnoses based on the expense of providing care and benefits, she added after earlier disclosing the statistics to the Seattle Times.

"Not only is it damaging for our soldiers, but it also really furthers the stigma for others that are ? whether they're deciding to seek help or not today," Murray said at the hearing.

Bales was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, of the 2nd Infantry Division, which is based at Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Wash.

Whether Bales sought treatment at Madigan is unknown, but his case brings fresh attention to the strains of war.

Army Secretary?John McHugh told the?Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee that the?Army is trying to determine whether the change in diagnosis was isolated or a common practice.

The Army inspector general is conducting a system-wide review of mental health facilities to determine whether psychiatrists overturned?diagnoses to save money, he added.

"To this point, we don't see any evidence of this being systemic," McHugh testified. "But as you and I have discussed," he said referring to Murray, "we want to make sure that where this was inappropriate, it was an isolated case, and if it were not, to make sure we address it as holistically as we're trying to address it at Madigan."

Of the 1,680 patients screened at Madigan,?more than 690 had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, said Murray. The psychiatric team reversed more than 290 of those diagnoses.?

What Murray referred to as the "invisible wounds of war" have moved to the forefront of the national debate after?the shooting spree earlier this month.

Bales, 38, is being held in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., while a military investigation continues. Bales, who enlisted in the military after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, did four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to court records and interviews.

"We have in the military writ large over 50,000 folks in uniform who have had at least four deployments," McHugh said.

Army officials said they are committed to strengthening the psychological resilience of its troops and leadership is taking deliberate steps to ensure help is available to soldiers and families dealing with PTSD and other psychological effects of war.

Army officials say soldiers sent to war may be checked up to five times, including before being deployed, during combat, once they return home and six months and a year later.

Besides lawyers, Bales' interaction limited to guards, chaplain

Every soldier returning from deployment completes what the Army calls a Post Deployment Health Assessment and a face-to-face interview with a mental health professional.

The Army screens soldiers for depression and PTSD, asking questions to find out about any social stressors, sleep disruption and other problems. Those who are detected as having problems go on to a second phase of screening.

Officials say, however, that no test is considered diagnostically definitive for mental illness in general or PTSD in particular.

More than 134,900 Army personnel were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries between 2000 and 2011. Of those, 75 percent or more than 100,000 were diagnosed as having a mild or regular concussion. Army policy calls for every service member involved in a blast, vehicle crash or a blow to the head to be medically evaluated.

While gay marriage is still a hot-button social issue, both here and in England, "Apple-y Ever After" will undoubtedly be less controversial than Ben & Jerry's "Lin-Sanity" frozen yogurt, which?initially included fortune cookies in its honey swirl when it debuted last month in Boston.

The company issued an apology to Jeremy Lin, the Taiwanese-American Harvard-graduate-turned-New-York-Knicks star point guard, and replaced the fortune cookies with waffle cones.

She successfully closed that business without having to make a concession on the price.

This was completely unacceptable to me because I was paying a month?s rent for 2 weeks and I wanted what I ordered as agreed.? He then offered to take it off the bill.? Kelly Clarkson: from 'American Idol' champ to rival

NEW YORK, March 13 (TheWrap.com) - Maybe "American Idol" should have hired Kelly Clarkson as a judge.

The first "Idol" winner, who returned to perform on the show last year, has since moved on to not one but two other singing competitions -- including one that has usurped "Idol" as the top-rated show this season, after eight years of "Idol" ratings dominance.

Clarkson only helps mentor contestants on NBC's "The Voice," which is beating "Idol" this season with help from a post-Super Bowl debut. But this summer, she'll be one of four judges on yet another singing competition, ABC's "Duets."

On that show, she'll join Lionel Richie, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, and Alan Thicke by singing along with contestants as well as mentoring them.

A rep for Clarkson did not immediately return a call for comment on this story.

Fans of Clarkson, the most successful star to come out of "Idol," could make the case that she now transcends any single show -- and shouldn't have to turn down opportunities on others.

Fox has expressed a lack of concern in the past about Clarkson appearing on "The Voice." Asked about it in January, Fox president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell said it was a compliment to "Idol."

He quipped, "We're not hiring a lot of people from 'The Voice' to be on our show."

That was before "The Voice" started beating "Idol" in the ratings -- with Clarkson's help.

Canada to defend its farmers in Pacific talks

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Canada will defend a tariff structure that supports its farmers as the country pushes for entry into a pan-Pacific trade pact, Canada's trade minister said on Monday.

Still, Trade Minister Ed Fast said in an interview on Monday Canada is ready to discuss all topics on the negotiating table as it faces pressure to open its farming industry in talks about joining the pact.

Fast said his country has the support of most of the countries involved in negotiating a Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. The proposed trade pact currently includes the United States, Australia and seven others.

News reports have suggested Australia and New Zealand are unhappy about Canada's supply management system, which protects its agricultural sector by setting producer quotas and prices on farm commodities such as milk and poultry, and putting stiff tariffs on imports.

"We have said very clearly we are prepared to discuss all matters on the negotiating table, but we also have made it very clear to our industry that we will continue to defend Canada's system of supply management," said Fast.

"We've made it very clear to our farmers we will aggressively defend their interests in the negotiations," Fast later added.

Fast, in New York to make the case for Canada's inclusion, said Canada would be an ally for the United States at the negotiating table.

"I think there's a general understanding that Canada needs to be at the table because of how much we have in common," Fast said.

The United States and Canada are the world's biggest goods trading partners. According to official U.S. data, two-way trade in 2010 totaled $525 billion.

Fast could not say exactly how many countries supported Canada's entry to the pact. He said his meetings in the United States have been "very, very positive".

Fast said he did not know of a timeline for a final deal at this point. Canada announced its interest in joining late last year. Japan and Mexico have also said they want to be in the pact.

OPPORTUNITIES BECKONING

Talks on a separate trade agreement between Canada and the European Union are down to the "final few" issues, Fast said, adding that he is still aiming to bring the discussions to an end sometime this year.

"We're making good progress," said Fast.

A trade pact between the two regions would be the biggest for Canada since it signed the landmark North American Free Trade Agreement with the United States and Mexico in 1994. Ottawa says a treaty with Europe would increase two-way trade by 20 percent.

Officials said last October they needed to settle disagreements on issues such as investment protection, intellectual property, access for agricultural goods, and opening up local and national procurement markets.

As for Canada's relationship with the United States, Fast said it would be a mistake to assume trade with Canada's southern neighbor will taper off as it looks for other places to send its goods, such as oil.

"The United States always has been and always will be Canada's largest trading partner," said Fast.

Canada is the largest single exporter of energy to the United States.

"My goal is to increase the amount of trade we do between Canada and the United States," said Fast. "But there are opportunities in the rest of the world that are beckoning as well, and Canada really needs to take notice of that and take concrete steps to take advantage of those opportunities."

To the Canadian government's disappointment, U.S. President Obama rejected the proposed $7 billion Keystone XL oil pipeline earlier in the year, pending further environmental review.

Fast said he is confident that if the pipeline is evaluated on its merits, it will be approved.

The pipeline would ferry crude from the Canadian oil sands to Texas refineries. The Canadian government says it will now focus on selling oil to Asian markets.

James Quinn Wilson, who has died at the age of 80, was a quietly spoken conservative scholar in the fields of political science and social science who, in the eyes of his admirers, left a lasting mark on the face of America.

The theory, sometimes referred to as zero tolerance, was simple enough: that police should not confine themselves to major offences but should also focus on the quality of life. If people were permitted to hang around on a street corner drinking, being abusive to others or playing truant, Wilson contended, then it was virtually certain that burglaries, car thefts and assaults would increase. Similarly, drug-dealing, prostitution and even public drunkenness and graffiti could drag a district down. This in turn could lead to the inevitable deterioration of a neighbourhood with a gradual exodus of its more law-abiding residents.

As Wilson and a colleague put it in a seminal 1982 article: "One unrepaired broken window is a signal that no one cares, and so breaking more windows costs nothing." It was the theory of the thin end of the wedge, the argument that a stitch in time could save nine.

He was a far-ranging thinker, producing almost a score of books and countless articles on subjects which included politics, personal character, race and marriage. He co-authored American Government, a standard textbook in use in colleges and high schools.

During his long life he was showered with awards, receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from George W Bush and serving as advisor to Presidents Johnson, Nixon and Reagan.

When Nixon was in power one of his senior aides famously introduced Wilson to him with the words: "Mr President, James Q Wilson is the smartest man in the United States. The president of the United States should pay attention to what he has to say."

Labelled a neoconservative, Wilson was a Republican who none the less said he voted for Democrats Johnson and Kennedy and worked in Hubert Humphrey's presidential campaign. The son of a salesman, he was born in Denver and brought up in Long Beach, California. He studied in California, recounting, "I was the first member of my family for as many generations as I could count who went to college."

He then spent three years in the navy during the Korean war before going on to take advanced degrees at the University of Chicago. He spent the years from 1961 to 1987 at Harvard teaching, writing and serving on a number of national commissions concerned with topics such as crime, drug abuse, delinquency and foreign intelligence.

Despite his long years at Harvard he was not a natural fit as a conservative in a generally liberal institution. A right-wing admirer proclaimed proudly: "For many years he told the truth and taught the truth against the liberal tide at major American universities and venues around the world."

Although he was trained as a political scientist he wrote, he said, about things which seemed important about which no one had said much. He listed among his themes "blacks in city government, reformers in local politics, the causes of crime and new ways to deal with it, the differences between strong and weak families, and the origins of our moral sense."

He was noted for the particular clarity of his writing style, which he attributed to the advice of one of his professors. "He told me that if I ever learned to write clear English I might amount to something," Wilson recalled. "He said, 'Stop writing what you think is social science.'"

A colleague commended his "encyclopaedic command of data, incisive mind, great modesty and gentle humour," while a friend said: "He spoke vividly, precisely and concisely with deeply insightful observation."

The broken windows theory really came to the fore when it was enthusiastically taken up by the New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. To put it into effect Giuliani appointed a new police commissioner, William Bratton of Boston. Their approach led to a distinct drop in crime, in particular violent offences, though some have suggested this may also have been due to factors such as the ending of a crack cocaine epidemic and an overall fall in the numbers of young males.

Bratton went on to head the police department in Los Angeles, where a similar improvement took place. Last year he indicated he was interested in the job of Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police, but did not secure the appointment despite reports that David Cameron saw him as a possible contender.

In a tribute to Wilson, Bratton said: "He reshaped the way law enforcement thought about its role and staunchly defended the idea of proactive policing that focuses not only on preventing crime but disorder."

"Let today be enough" describes Robert's easygoing manner and his ability to inspire and touch the lives of many.

Robert was employed for 18 years as a Maintenance Utility Worker for the Templeton Unified School District. He was also an assistant coach for the track team and was a constant help with the football team. Robert's family was the center of his life and he was involved with as many of their activities as he could. He enjoyed photography, especially in the sports arena and was an avid collector of sports and various other memorabilia.

Do a little research,, how much as the price of gold /silver gone up this year? in the past 12 months? in the past 3 or 5 years? Then look at your favorite gold/silver mining companies and compare their performance vs the price of the hard asset. As far as owning gold or silver vs owning shares of the companies that mine them,, there is no way to compare that because gold and silver have a real intrinsic value and will when the U.S. dollar has gone the way of all fiat currencies. If you do your research you will find there has never been a fiat currency that has not gone to zero. If the U.S. dollar is worthless,, is the gold/silver mining company worth anything?
(because our currency has not as yet gone to zero does not mean it is not headed that direction today)
