State institutions resume procurements of health insurance services ...

In the last nine months of 2012, associations working in health insurance services issued a total of 34.7 million LVL worth of insurance prizes.

The volume of issued insurance prizes has reduced by 1.6 million LVL (4%), compared with the same period of 2011. The volume of paid insurance compensations has increased by 2.6 million LVL (13%). In general, a total of 21.9 million LVL were paid in the nine months of 2012 as compensations, according to the data of the Latvian Insurers Association (LIA).

?A small reduction on the insurance market is related to the reduction of single use payments of large amounts of money. Regular (monthly) payments on the other hand have increased. Clients still use health insurance to create savings,? ? explains President of LIA Juris Dumpis.

This year, the number of signed health insurance prizes was 6.7 million LVL (19% of the general insurance market). This is 1.1 million LVL more than last year. ?The increase of health insurance is related to the fact that state and municipal institutions have resumed procurements of health insurance services,? ? notes Dumpis.

5.3 million LVL (24% of the genera; life insurance market) have been paid in the form of health insurance compensations in 2012, which is 0.9 million LVL more (22%) than last year.

The volume of signed prizes for insurance of accidents was 0.9 million LVL (3%) ? by 96 thousand LVL more (by 11%) than in the same period of 2011. 167 thousand LVL were paid in the form of accident insurance compensations, by 36 thousand LVL more than in nine months of 2011.
